iPad 2 Hits the Shelves at Walmart, Target, Best Buy

Apple’s much anticipated iPad 2 hit the shelves this weekend much to the delight of the dedicated queues and crowds of enthusiasts across the United States. Friday marked the release of the revered tablet for both online purchase and in retail stores, with demand predicted to surpass that of the original iPad last year.

Last year’s online pre-order system was abolished by Apple in favor of a midnight online release followed by subsequent retail releases throughout the day. Needless to say, demand is once again expected to outweigh supply with extra security being drafted in across the board to assist with crowd control.

Along with the usual string of Apple outlets around the country, the iPad 2 can also be found in Target, Best Buy and Walmart stores allowing for a little potential bargain hunting. Verizon Wireless have also included the iPad 2 among their product range with AT&T expected to follow suit, though currently remaining silent about their intentions.

It remains to be seen whether the retail launch partners offer online sale options alongside their in-store range,  though it is likely both will carry fairly similar costs.  Of course, as is the trend with Apple products, a price war is unlikely to follow but a few dollars here and there is often enough to sway the thriftier consumer.

“Fast free shipping” is once again being promised by Apple for any direct orders the receive immediately following launch of the iPad 2, though the company has adopted a realistic standpoint as to exactly how ‘fast’ this may prove to be, in light of nightmarish order backlogs recent years have seen.
